The Role
A sought-after opportunity has arisen within Moody’s Ratings’ Sydney office for an AVP-Analyst to assume lead coverage of public sector and infrastructure finance credits. This multifaceted and influential role will require the analyst to conduct rigorous and timely analysis to assess the credit quality of a variety of entities and debt instruments, ongoing monitoring to support rating accuracy, and to manage internal and external relationships at senior levels. The individual will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the operating environment and sectors, including broader economic, political and policy developments as they relate to credit. A central part of the role is writing topical and insightful research, and may include collaboration on regional research initiatives.
Responsibilities
Credit Analysis
* Serve as lead analyst for a portfolio of regional and local governments (RLGs) and universities in Australia and New Zealand, as well as infrastructure credits, which could include regulated utilities, transport infrastructure and social infrastructure.
* Conduct credit research, including analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, development of financial forecasts, review of policy documents, governing agreements and documents, and assessment of credit quality under Moody’s rating methodologies.
* Exhibit a strong understanding of the RLG sector, including budgetary frameworks and linkages with the Commonwealth/Crown governments, as well as the project finance and infrastructure sectors in Australia and New Zealand.
* Good presentation skills, including presenting credits in a clear, thoroughly-researched and articulate manner in rating committees and other internal forums.
Research & Outreach
* Author entity specific and sector related research, ability to balance research and outreach responsibilities with credit monitoring activity. Requires strong writing skills, the ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and comprehensible manner, and an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter.
* Manage issuer relationships at a very senior level, demanding exceptional interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
* Present Moody’s views confidently and effectively to market stakeholders, including investors, intermediaries and press/media.
* Participate in presentations at conferences, attend industry events, and other stakeholder meetings to further raise the visibility and leadership of Moody’s franchise.
Leadership
* Participate in key strategic projects to support team effectiveness and success in the region.
* Ability to form constructive working relationships with diverse staff located throughout region
* Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior staff in Sydney.
Qualifications
* Graduate degree or equivalent, preferably in Economics, International Relations, Finance, Business, or Public Administration with postgraduate qualifications strongly desired.
* Substantial experience in public finance or relevant credit research experience is essential.
* A minimum of 7 years of relevant analytical experience, preferably with a financial institution in a credit role.
* Strong quantitative aptitude and demonstrated analytical ability, including advanced knowledge of MS Excel and financial/statistical research capabilities.
* Previous experience writing research would be advantageous.
* Articulate and succinct communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills with sound judgment.
