Skills and Competencies

The internship is based in London and runs for 10 weeks, starting on the 16th of June 2025 running until the 22nd of August. It is aimed at PhD students or recent MSc graduates.

  • Strong programming skills in a high-level language such as Python (preferred) or R. Knowledge of Git and version control is beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of statistical modelling techniques and an ability to translate them into code
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English

Education

  • Pursuit of a PhD in a STEM subject, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline (MSc also considered)

Responsibilities

You are joining a group of risk-management quants whose responsibilities include:

  • Researching new quantitative methods and publishing white papers as well as methodology documents,
  • Implementing new features within our software tools, including at production-level, primarily in Python and R.
  • Working with banks and other financial institutions to develop quantitative solutions related to financial risk, including risk assessment and credit risk modelling, portfolio management, IFRS9 and regulatory compliance.

Department: Risk and Finance Research

In the Moody’s Risk and Finance group, we develop quantitative solutions to help lending institutions make important decisions about their business, particularly when they are providing loans, managing risk, or conducting financial planning for the future of their institution. We do this with our innovative software and reliable analytics, helping them understand how to do their job better through training, learning solutions and advisory services.

Team members have diverse backgrounds including econometrics, finance, economics, statistics, engineering, and mathematics.
