The VP - Accounting Knowledge Manager (KM) is a strategically important role, responsible for managing and developing the global KM team within the Data & Analytics (D&A) spreading team. The VP KM will define the strategy for sustainably increasing the quality of spreads across several lines of business, be responsible to collaborate with R&R and RRS to build globally consistent spreading approaches and work within D&A to build and improve existing guidance and training.

The VP KM and their team will partner closely with the R&R Accounting Specialists and Ratings Process and Data team to identify and implement opportunities to simplify and streamline work and improve productivity. They will also work closely with lead analysts, ratings associates and other stake-holders as they participate in global projects to develop, implement and enforce globally consistent spreading and adjustment approaches. The candidate needs to be able to influence decision making, adeptly navigate difficult conversations, and build consensus amongst analytic teams.

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Lead team of global KMs across several lines of business and regions, empowering them to lead in their respective areas and developing their talent
  • Create and own strategic projects to simplify and harmonize financial data mapping and adjustments for Moody’s ratings analytics
  • Work closely with senior leaders within Ratings & Research (R&R) and Ratings Operations & Control (ROC) to identify and prioritize financial data mapping and adjustments projects for simplification and harmonization
  • Develop, sequence, and prioritize process enhancements, creating a multi-period plan and leading execution of these initiatives into D&A spreading process across lines of business
  • Continue to develop KM processes and communication channels, such as the resolution of spreading and adjustments questions, timely updates of guidelines and trainings and reporting to senior stakeholders
  • Fully understand and apply the Moody’s Chart of Accounts, adjustments, ratios and methodologies to the analytic data spreading process
  • Liaise with Accounting Specialists to resolve complex questions and exceptions to general guidelines
  • Empower FDA and Outsourcer teams to more independently deliver high quality analytic data by building and institutionalizing spreading knowledge
  • Contribute technical knowledge to sector and adjustment methodology updates
  • Identify areas of non-standard mappings or use of adjustments and create and lead initiatives to achieve a higher degree of standardization
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to significantly increase spread throughput and reduce spread rework and on hold times
  • Work with IT Business Analysts to implement changes driven by accounting updates and improvements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in accounting, finance or financial statement analysis
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or similar field
  • MS, MBA, CFA or other advanced degree is desirable
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and other accounting principles
  • Extensive experience working with financial data/statements, analytical experience is desirable
  • Experience in leading teams and/or developing talent
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and relationship-management skills and ability to interact effectively with various partners and senior management
  • Initiative and motivation to lead change and systematically increase global consistency and transparency of data used in Moody’s ratings and research
  • Ability to enforce documented and agreed upon guidelines and standards with analytic teams
  • Client focus, result orientation and strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, focus and work independently
  • Flexibility to meet changing demands and shift priorities according to business needs
  • Computer literate with a solid understanding of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
